SON Preceptors

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Nursing (SON) faculty members would like to extend warm appreciation to each of you who has agreed to serve as clinical preceptors for students from the UMMC SON. Your willingness to mentor these students is one of the highest forms of professionalism.

In this role, you serve as the facilitator, educator, expert, and role model for students' experiences in a clinical setting. SON students benefit from your knowledge, expertise, confidence, dedication, and leadership skills. Preceptor Orientation Manuals can be provided via email by contacting the appropriate course coordinator you are working with or the program/track director. 

Undergraduate:

The SON Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preceptor Orientation Manual is provided to help guide current and new preceptors for any of our undergraduate programs. Contact the program director with any questions or for the evaluation forms for the undergraduate program.

APRN tracks:

The SON Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Preceptor Orientation Manual is provided to help guide current and new preceptors for any of our five APRN nurse practitioner tracks (including adult-gerontology acute care, acute/primary care pediatric; family; neonatal; family psychiatric/mental health). Graduate:

The SON Nurse Educator (NED) Preceptor Orientation Manual and SON Nursing and Health Care Administrator (NHCA) Preceptor Orientation Manual are provided to help guide current and new preceptors for our educator and administrator MSN tracks. Contact the program director with any questions or for evaluation forms for the post-graduate tracks.

Doctoral:

The SON Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Preceptor Orientation Manual is provided to help guide current and new preceptors for our DNP program. Contact the program director with any questions or for DNP program evaluation forms.
